On Wednesday, February 1st we had an assembly with special guests to visit the kids at Immaculate Conception to talk about vocations. Our very own Sr. Nancy Wolf spoke to the kids about what it is like to be a sister of the Precious Blood. Fr. Ken Schnipke, pastor, and Brother Nick Renner, also discussed their roles in the parish and how and when they first decided to listen to their calling from God. James Smith, a seminarian, also discussed his path of schooling and what is involved to actually become a priest in the Catholic church. It was a very informative assembly and the students had very good questions for all the speakers.

I.C. School December Volunteer of the Month
Immaculate Conception would like to honor Julie Fleck as our volunteer of the month for December. Julie volunteers her services as an important force on the fundraising committee and as the vice president of the I.C. School PTO. She has served on the fundraising committee for the past two years, and her expertise in business and marketing strategies is a huge support to the school. She most recently co-chaired Immaculate Conception School’s first annual All Saints dinner auction, which was a huge success.
Julie and her husband Tony are the owners of Bella’s Italian Grille in Celina, and they are active in many local organizations and events. Their daughter Maddie is presently enrolled in kindergarten at I.C. School.
Julie added, “For 3 generations, our family has attended Immaculate Conception School. Tony & I both volunteer at the school because we appreciate the commitment to excellence provided by the teachers, staff, clergy and entire Immaculate Conception family. I.C. provides our children with the highest level of education in a faith-based and caring environment.”

I.C. School’s November Volunteer of the Month

Immaculate Conception School would like to honor Elaine Marbaugh as our volunteer of the month for November. Elaine gives much time and energy to the school’s SCRIP program. The SCRIP program provides an opportunity for people to purchase gift cards to many local and national retailers, use them to purchase the things they want to buy, and I.C. School gets a small percentage of the sale of the card. Elaine helps by placing orders online and filling orders and taking care of inventory. The cards are available at the school office each day, after weekend Masses at I.C. Church, and by order. Elaine is also a volunteer presence in the school library and the kindergarten classroom, and is always willing to lend a hand to many projects.

Elaine Marbaugh and her husband Denny have been members of I.C. Parish for many years. Their daughters Amy and Kelly attended I.C. School. Currently, both daughters are working and attending graduate school. Elaine, retired after teaching in the Marion Local School District, now enjoys being a volunteer, including volunteer work at I.C. School.

Said Elaine, “I appreciate the opportunity to volunteer to work with the I.C. School students and staff. The children are eager to learn and the teachers and staff are remarkable in their dedication. As a graduate of I.C. School and as a former I.C. parent, I feel fortunate that our daughters had the opportunity to receive a solid faith-based education. By being a volunteer, I hope to foster I.C.’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence and strong Christian values.”

The SCRIP gift cards can be purchased at the school office any school day between 8:00 and 3:30 and after each weekend Mass at I.C. Church. They make great gifts and many local and national retailers are included. If anyone is interested in finding out more information about our SCRIP program or I.C. School in general, please stop by, call the school at 419-586-2379, or check out our website www.icschool-celina.org.

I.C. School October Volunteer of the Month

Immaculate Conception would like to honor Julie Shaffer as our volunteer of the month for October. Julie volunteers her services as a nurse by checking the children’s immunization records, doing screenings, and providing training and information for staff members to help them care for students’ health issues more efficiently. She began volunteering these services in 2008 after auxiliary funds were cut back. She had served as the school’s nurse since 2002. She is a tremendous support and blessing to the I.C. School community.

Julie Shaffer works for the Mercer County Health Department where she gives immunizations and does screening for vision and hearing in the county schools. She also works casual at Doctor’s Urgent Care. She is a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Parish, and she attended I.C. School herself as a child. She has had 5 children successfully graduate from I.C. School, and her youngest child is in the fourth grade at Immaculate Conception School.

Julie adds that she is very appreciative of all the blessings the I.C. Staff has given to her children.

Immaculate Conception School has chosen Rosita Drexler as the Volunteer of the Month for September. Rosita has served as the chairperson of the marketing and enrollment committee at I.C. School for the past 3 years. She works tirelessly to organize mailings and opportunities for Immaculate Conception School to be presented to various groups of people. The marketing and enrollment committee has worked to develop many promotional materials for the school including a float that has been in local parades, brochures and literature that highlight and accent the many positive aspects of the school, and a DVD that contains testimonials of the value of the school. In addition, Mrs. Drexler has written grants to help benefit the school.

Rosita resides in Celina with her husband Doug and three sons. The younger boys attend I.C. School, and the oldest has completed I.C. School. She also works several hours each week in the school cafeteria and spends time working at the St. CharIes Retirement Center. I.C. School appreciates all the hard work and effort Mrs. Drexler and her committee put forth to help make the community more aware of the wonderful things that happen here.
