1st Grade!
First grade is filled with fun and learning for you and for me! Each day we read
about interesting people and things. Often our art projects, Social Studies
units, Bible stories and Science units follow our reading book. For example, one
of our units is about the ocean. We read a story about an aquarium from our
reading books, make a cross form shells and tongue depressors, paint beach
scenes, act out the story of Jesus blessing the loaves and the fishes and fix a
"fishy" snack!
The kids in first grade LOVE talking to our puppet friends, Dudley and Tessie. Each day we visit with Dudley. He is a funny dog who does silly things. The first graders work hard to teach Dudley about manners and proper behavior. Tessie is Dudley's best friend. She is the nicest girl in the school. She impresses the first graders with her calm, patient, attitude.
Another favorite activity of our first graders is writing! It is exciting to write and illustrate our own books. Our librarian laminates the covers and binds them for us. I send the books home for the parents to see and then they are returned to school. We keep them until the end of the year so we can celebrate each child's writing with an Author's Party!
I hope you will join our first grade family at IC. We would love to have you!
